North Texas is typically associated with the city of Dallas, but there are a number of additional communities in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex and surrounding areas that offer everything from hiking trails, sporting events, buzzing downtown neighborhoods with coffee shops, restaurants, bookstores, breweries, and wineries (yes, in Texas!) all within a short drive of DFW. Whether you are relocating to Texas from another state (or country), or are already a Texas resident looking to move or buy a new home, North Texas has a little something for everyone.

Fun Things to See, Do and Drink in the North Texas/Dallas Fort Worth Metro Area

The Light Farms community is ideally located in Celina, just a short drive to some of the area’s more fun and interesting attractions. Whether you love a good local wine or want to get in on the exciting action at one of the many Dallas professional sporting events, it’s all in reach for residents of the Light Farms community!

Lone Star Grapes

Texas may not be the first place to come to mind when it comes to award winning wines, but the presence of notable wineries is on the rise. You’re bound to find a number of excellent wineries near Light Farms that’ll leave you pleasantly surprised.

Caudalie Crest Winery is a young boutique style winery that offers handcrafted bottles and public as well as private tasting tours by appointment. Bonus: vineyard owners Ray and Sue aren’t just enterprising vintners, they also raise and sell Dwarf Nigerian Dairy goats – so think of it as part winery, part grown up petting zoo! Located just 12 miles from Light Farms.

Eden Hill Vineyard in Celina brings you a little taste of wine country to Texas, with numerous award winning vintages with a unique, handcrafted in Texas spin. In addition to rentals and a wine store, they also offer a wine club if you prefer to take the party back home to Light Farms. Above all, this winery is only 11 miles from Light Farms.

Hit the Gridiron

If you’ve always secretly dreamed of being a pro in the NFL – or would prefer to just enjoy the games from the safety of the stadium with a beer in hand – you’re in luck. The Star (training facility for the Dallas Cowboys) is open to the public several times a year, where you can watch the behind the scenes action with a tour and the occasional open practice. If soccer is more up your alley, catch a FC Dallas game at Toyota Stadium. Both are within 15 miles.

Texas Tulips

Texas Tulips offers a little taste of The Netherlands in North Texas, with seasonal (opens February each year) horticultural and picking tours. Pick your favorite strain of tulip or enjoy the chrysanthemums and irises while they’re in bloom! (Great option for the kids). Located 16 miles from the Light Farms community.

Hit the Trails

Get out of the car and work off the wine on one of North Texas’ hiking trails and nature preserves:

A little bit further from Light Farms, but well worth the quick 31 miles, you’ll find Spring Creek Nature Area in Richardson, TX. This nature preserve features a 51- acre area with a multi-use trail, hardwood forest, pedestrian bridge over winding Spring Creek, picnic benches and a horseshoe pit. The varied trail options and multitude of other activities make it the perfect outdoor activity for a family day.

If you’re looking for a little more difficult trail that’s a little closer to home, the Northwest Community Dorba Trail is just 10 miles away from Light Farms. Suitable for both hiking and biking, this trail offers 10.5 miles of trail and 650 feet of hiking broken down into five separate loops.

Looking to walk out your front door and right to some trails? Look no further! At Light Farms, residents can enjoy over 13 miles of hiking and biking trails with multiple access points throughout the community.

Historic Downtown McKinney

Shop, catch live music, wine and dine, and enjoy a little Texan culture in McKinney, ranked a #1 place to live in America in 2014! Historic Downtown Mckinney features different historic preservations and charming bed and breakfasts all around the city square. Furthermore, they host a variety of events including Oktoberfest, a big tree lighting festival in the Winter, and the Krewe of Barkus (a mardi gras celebration dog parade). Just 16 miles away from Light Farms, Downtown Mckinney is perfect for a charming night out with family or friends.
