There’s a new sheriff in town… former Navy pilot Pat Vedra tells us all about his new role as Project Manager at Light Farms and what he is looking forward to the most!
Q. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I grew up in a small town in Ohio. I was lucky enough to get into Notre Dame which had been my childhood dream and then was commissioned as an officer in the U. S. Navy where I had the opportunity to go to flight school in Pensacola and then on to fly F-14 Tomcats. (Yes, I had seen Top Gun in high school and was hooked!) I was based on the USS Nimitz and literally sailed around the world while deployed. I married my high school sweetheart and have three kids with my oldest in college and my youngest in middle school. We are blessed with great kids who are the most important people in my life. I had the chance to go to business school and then work in a number of fields and companies before coming to Republic Property Group. I have built homes, golf courses, and neighborhoods both large and small. I think our work is very tangible and long lasting. We can see our successes and mistakes every day in the communities we build and each day in our business is challenging, rewarding and exciting.
Q. What do you do for Light Farms exactly?
I would say that I am responsible for the overall business plan of Light Farms. We have dedicated construction, marketing, legal and finance experts working on all of our projects, but I am focused across all those functions in Light Farms. I am working on what future neighborhoods will look like, when to develop them, how our builders perform today, how the HOA functions, where we market Light Farms, what sort of non-residential uses will develop over time, and how we maintain what’s already built. In general, working with our builders, consultants, neighbors, city officials, homeowners, school officials and others to make Light Farms the best place to live in our area.
Q. What is your favorite thing so far about Light Farms?
It has to be the Barn Yard. It is a town center, a playground for kids and grown-ups, and the style sets the tone for everything about Light Farms. Very welcoming, American, relaxed but alive. It is the heart of Light Farms.
Q. What is one interesting fact about you?
I was the 7th of 9 kids. I also had an aunt and an uncle who also each had nine kids, so I come from a big, extended family. You can’t take yourself too seriously when you’re from a big family, because your family’s always ribbing.
Q. What are you most excited about as far as the future of Light Farms?
The regional park now under construction, Constellation Park, will be a recreational area with trails, lake, and amenities. It may be what Light Farms is known for much more than anything already built.
Q. What advice do you have for families looking to relocate to Light Farms? (Why should they pick us?)
If you just want a house or shelter, there is no shortage of options. But if you are raising a family, want to make memories and want real community, there really is no place like Light Farms with its active programs for kids of all ages, an elementary school on-site, its proximity to Prosper High School and Frontier Park along with its impressive trails and amenities, which continue to expand all the time. There will be no place quite like it in the area.
Q. How have you seen the surrounding area change in the short time you’ve worked here and why do you think that’s important to homebuyers?
I have seen that there are commercial, retail and other developments planned that complement residential developments like Light Farms. For instance, the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth recently purchased a large piece of land in Prosper where they will ultimately build a private K-12 school. There are also medical, dental office developers actively looking for and planning developments in the area. Finally, I have seen that officials and staff in local government and the school district are actively working on initiatives in infrastructure for telecommunications and transportation that will be truly transformative for the Celina area. It is an exciting time to be involved in development in this area, the Golden Corridor of North Texas.
