Out & About in Celina Part I: Events

By January 26, 2017 No Comments

As promised, here is part one of our three-part weekly series featuring some of the great things about Celina, with this article focusing on: events! Celina hosts plenty of year-round events for the entire family, which is just one reason why we – and our residents – love Celina so much and love calling Light Farms home.

Chances are you may know about this event, but in case you don’t, be sure to mark your calendar for the 5th Annual Cajun Fest taking place on April 8th in Celina’s historic downtown square! Last year’s fest hosted thousands of people and this year promises to be even bigger and better with five live Cajun bands, classic cars, a live gator show, great food, including 5 tons of crawfish, and more! The all-day event is hosted by the City of Celina and sponsored by Light Farms. Keep up-to-date by following Celina Cajun Fest on Facebook!

The Cajun Fest is just one of fun events the City of Celina holds. Others include their Annual Golf Tournament, Super Hero on the Square, Celina “Fun” Day, Star Wars on the Square, as well as Annual Halloween and Christmas events. As spring crops start to pop up, the Friday Night Market, also sponsored by Celina Ladies and Friends, opens in April. Pick up locally grown produce, shop for handmade goods and sip & shop local wines while listening to live music from 6pm to 9pm. What could be cooler than that on a nice Spring weekend evening? Visit The City of Celina’s event’s page in a few weeks for firm dates and details on all these fun events, and more.

Celina Ladies and Friends is a group whose purpose “is to welcome residents and help them get connected in their community by providing opportunities to become involved and build lasting friendships”. They held a Ladies’ Night Out earlier this month, and in February the organization also hosts a Valentine’s Day party for just for couples and a Father-Daughter Dance. Check their website for the calendar of other events throughout the year and more information about the organization.

Have some readers in your family? The Celina Public Library resumed their monthly Book Club on January 19th, but it’s not too late to join in! The children’s Weekly Story Time and Crafts also resumes this month. Follow Celina Public Library on Facebook for additional information on both of these and more initiatives throughout the year.

So, sometimes seen as a small, sleepy town, Celina sure knows how to have fun. Stay up to date with the above events in more by following their respective websites and Facebook pages. And stay tuned for our next installment of Out & About in Celina, coming next week!
