So we’ve been curious… how much money would we really save if we went to Whole Foods or Central Market and purchased the identical types and amounts of organic produce that Johnson’s Backyard Garden – Denton provides in its CSA boxes? Well, in case you’ve been wondering the same thing, we did just that with a comparison shop this week! The left side of the picture above shows what’s in the large-sized share this week, and to the right shows our copycat shop! Not only did we spend much more money than we anticipated, we had to go to two different stores to find all of the produce JBG provides!
Total trip time shopping: One hour (and 2 stores)
Total money spent: $72.70
vs.
Cost of large CSA share: $40.00
That’s almost half the price. Participating in the CSA program not only saves you time (don’t we all have busy schedules?) but also moolah, benjamins, lettuce (get it?)… cold hard cash! So, sign up at jbgorganic.com and select Light Farms as your pick up location. Shares are delivered to the Light Farms Information Center every Saturday morning, and the week’s box contents are released on their website each Wednesday so you’ll know what yummy produce you’ll snag that week! Keep up with Light Farms’ CSA program and details here: The Farm Stand at Light Farms.
*Remember: the cutoff for signup is every MONDAY AT 12PM before that Saturday’s delivery (that’s TODAY!), so head to JBG’s website and sign up now to get your share this Saturday, July 4th! (But please note, the Information Center will be closed that day, so the boxes will be left just outside the front door, under the covered patio – or, you can postpone your pickup until July 11th.)
*Please bring your reusable shopping bag, empty the contents of your box and break down your box… JBG reuses the boxes! Also, we cannot keep the produce boxes past the pickup time (8-11am). Shares that are not picked up by noon will be donated to a local food bank. If you can’t grab your share please make arrangements with a friend or neighbor who can grab it for you!
