Meet The Shelton’s
Light Farms residents and fans of the show House Hunters may recognize a few familiar faces on an episode called “A Castle for a King in Texas” aired in April. Relocating from Louisiana, Cory & Jennifer Shelton toured 3 neighborhoods in the Prosper / Celina area on the show. Spoiler Alert: they ultimately chose Light Farms to call home. The couple has been married for thirteen years and has ten kids total. They were searching for a neighborhood that would be a perfect fit for all of their children ranging from ages 4 to 22, plus Cory’s must have – a “king’s castle” architectural style complete with turrets.
Louisiana to Dallas
Upon Jennifer’s application to the TV show, the producers were immediately interested. The couple researched all over the country deciding where to relocate and eventually landed on the Prosper area, being family-friendly and close to Dallas where there are a lot of opportunities for their careers. On the episode The Shelton’s toured a Light Farms home built by Shaddock Homes, that along with Cory’s turret, had everything the couple was looking for. Like beautiful architectural details, a large dining room where they could all eat together as a family, a neighborhood full of amenities and plenty of space for the kids. They filmed the episode first for two days for ten hours a day, and then five weeks later three more days, for a total of five days of filming. “It was a good experience,” shared Jennifer. “They were super nice. The producer came from LA, there was a sound guy, a cinematographer and a PA and they were all contracted, they all live in Texas and are super cool.”
Local Celebrities
The couple shared plenty of hilarious exchanges in the episode as to who exactly would be cleaning this big house, and what upgrades were going to make the final cut ( of course the beautiful cedar beams won out), but their love for each other and their family is what really stands out in the episode. By the time the episode aired, the family had already been living at Light Farms about a year. We asked Jennifer if she received any notoriety around town for her appearance on the national TV show – and she did! But no autographs, please.
Why Light Farms
Jennifer shared what made her and Cory choose Light Farms over the other properties they were shown on the show. “Light Farms offered a much greater sense of community than others and it felt less commercialized. It’s peaceful. Plus all the amenities and the proximity to everything, it’s easy to get anywhere. The kids love the parks, trails and riding their bikes, and we have an excellent school right in our backyard.” Now that the family has called Light Farms home for over a year, we asked if they had any regrets about their choice. “We knew immediately Light Farms just felt right, and that feeling has only since grown. The kids made friends the first week here. And they all love it here as do we!”
